I love NASCAR. I love talking about NASCAR. I started watching races in 2000 while I was in college because every Sunday when I called my mom all she was doing was "watching the race". I decided that if I wanted to have any type of conversation with her I would have to start watching NASCAR too. Great Decision.
Usually, before, during, and after every race me and my mom have conversations. Some are 2 minutes long. Others are an hour. I don't know if anyone else will care about what I say and I am sure there will be people who don't agree with my opinions but that's ok. I just thought it would be fun to write down some of the conversations I have with my mom so that I can read them anytime I want.
OK, so I have to make a few acknowledgements just to be fair. First off, I am a Junior fan. I am a biased Junior fan. Now, I will blame Junior when he is at fault but if there is even a shadow of a doubt that he is not at fault...well, I am not gonna put it on him! I know, I know that ain't right, right? Well, sorry but I just can't lose my loyalty to my dear Junior!
You probably know who I dislike...yep...it is Kyle Busch or as I refer to him...Douche Nozzle. Ok, that's harsh. I will call him Kyle Busch, I guess. Even though I don't want to. Now, it has to be noted that I don't actually KNWO Kyle Busch so I can't really say that I dislike him as a person... Maybe he is a great person? I am sure that IF I ever met him I would be nice to him. I might even like him "in real life". But as far as it goes on the race track...I ain't a fan! I do think he is a great driver but I also think he is a whiny baby. He literally NEVER takes the blame when something doesn't go his way. He is NEVER punished by NASCAR. I think he has a nasty attitude and can dish out wrecks and bad mouthing people but he CANNOT take it! And just as I admit that I am a biased Junior fan, I feel that a lot of commentators/writers are biased Kyle Busch fans.
Here are two examples:
1. When Kyle Busch WRECKED Kevin Harvick tonight, DW never said "oh Kyle Busch just wrecked Harvick" oh no...he says "I am gonna have to look at that again"...hmmm? I think by the end of the show all the commentators agreed that it was both of their faults. Alrighty then...
2. In an article posted on ESPN.COM right after the race here is what they had to say:
"...Smith held off Carl Edwards over the final two laps at Darlington Raceway in a race that turned ugly late when Kyle Busch tangled with Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer to set up the overtime finish. Harvick and Busch stared down each other from their cars as they entered the garage before a standoff that looked like it might erupt further. It finally ended when Busch bumped Harvick's car several times to make space to drive off."
Ok, you left out the BEST part, Harvick PUNCHED Bush...AND Kyle Busch didn't move the car out of the way because there wasn't room to get around it. He moved it out of the way because he was about to get his rear end whooped and had to high tail it outta there! The article kind of forgot to metion the above items and made light of the fact that the car the Busch moved out of the way could have run over someone!
Yeah, I for sure think Kyle Bush is shown a lot of undeserved favoritism.
One more thing to get out of the way...NASCAR just makes up rules as they go. Or at least I think they do since I can't get my hands on a copy of their rule book since I am not a driver! There is a reason that they don't publish their rules for outsiders (like you and me). They don't want us to know the rules! Any other sport allows people to know their rules. For that matter, golfers are penalized when tv viewers call in to tell them about a rules violation! That's a bit extreme and pretty dumb but at least golf fans know the rules! Not in NASCAR. Nope, they make it up as they go. Ok, not really BUT sort of. There are definitely a lot of discrepancies among penalties. In all fairness I think everyone for the most part has had some of the unfairness of the rules bestowed upon them but does that really make it fair?
Wow, that's a lot of disclaimers I have to get out of the way just so we can get down to business....
What a race! I love that Regan Smith won...I love it when someone out of the ordinary wins. It makes the whole race worth watching. NASCAR is redundant. They go around a circle A LOT of times. I have to admit, I get a little bored sometimes...but I keep watching because I love it! However, after you watch a long race and the same person or people have won every other race in recent memory, well, that just gets really redundant. So, when someone like Regan Smith wins it just makes me feel good. I like seeing a car in victory lane that has two sponsors,,,one of those sponsors being Denver Mattress. I don't live in Denver and I don't need a mattress but if I did I would go to Denver Mattress.
I thought the race tonight was pretty exciting. I liked that there was never a clear, dominant car. I love green white checkered re starts! I also got pretty excited when Brian Vickers door got torn off and he still was able to get back out there and race. The duct taped number on the side of the car just made it even better!
Now, for the real action of the night...the Harvick/Bush Clash! I don't know who caused the Bowyer wreck. I truly think it was just hard racing. You know I wanna say that it was Kyle Busch's fault but I won't because I just can't be sure that it was. However, it is VERY obvious that Kyle Busch wrecked Kevin Harvick ON PURPOSE under caution about 5 seconds after the Bowyer wreck. I thought it was against NASCAR rules to race or wreck another car UNDER CAUTION? Very Interesting that Busch wasn't penalized for that...but why would they penalize Kyle Busch? Junior hits a cone on pit road and gets penalized (that's fair) Kyle Bush pushes a car (with NO driver in it) out of they way on pit road AFTER the race...wrecks someone under caution...and no penalties? That's about right? Not only, should he penalized but he should be ashamed and embarrassed. I mean, that Un-manned car that he pushed out of the way could have hit one of the many people that were running down to "stop" the fight. Kind of a hazard in NASCAR to have a driver-less car moving around pit road! Not to mention that those NASCAR cars kinda cost a lot of money!
Anyway, I could go on and on and on and on...just remember that these are MY opinions. I am not trying to convert any Kyle Bush fans to Junior Nation. And I sure hope no one that reads this will try to get me to like Kyle Bush...that ain't happening!
I have to wrap it up here...again CONGRATULATIONS to Regan Smith. Any man that cries when he wins a NASCAR race has also won a place in my heart. I hope he wins many, many more races.
